THE ISSUES

We honor, but then ignore our returning veterans. Steve proposes a medical and educational concierge service, which would assist veterans in navigating civilian life again with regard to healthcare services, furthering or completing their education, and job placement.

He would require the University and Technical Colleges of Georgia to partner in developing this program for our veterans.

Back the Blue

Back the Blue

"Back the Blue” isn’t just a slogan for me, because I’m part of the Blue.

I've been a certified law enforcement officer since I graduated from the police academy in 1986.  With our police under fire from the left, now more than ever, the voters of Dawson, Lumpkin, and Forsyth need to know that their representative will stand up for law enforcement.

If you vote for me on August 11, I'll always vote to keep our police well-funded and well-supported. I won't compromise on backing the men and women who keep our streets safe.

Public Safety

Public Safety

A major concern that we all share is for public safety. Steve will never vote to defund the police.

As the only certified police officer in the race, Steve understands the challenges our police and sheriff’s deputies face every day. As an advocate of the thin blue line, he will promote legislation to fund our police and emergency services adequately to protect us all.

Second Amendment

Second Amendment

The Second Amendment is absolute. Local, state, and federal governments do not have the right to infringe upon gun ownership.

Tax credits should be given to those who wish to take gun safety classes. Why should Hollywood and other outside businesses be the only beneficiaries of tax credits?

Term Limits

Term Limits

Term limits open the door to fresh insights and new ideas. Even with strong leadership, the public sector flourishes with new blood.

Not only does Steve believe in term limits and will fight for them, but he limited his election to the State Bar of GA Board of Governors after serving 3 consecutive terms to allow another person that opportunity.

Veteran Care

Taxes and the Senior Exemptions

Taxes and the Senior Exemptions

Seniors are a valuable resource in our community. There is no need to change the senior exemption.

If elected, Steve will introduce legislation requiring the University of Georgia System to support the communities where they are located. As an institution, the University System is in a position that can well afford to pay its fair share, as it is in direct competition with private universities that are required to pay taxes.

Trail of Tears Museum

Trail of Tears Museum

North Georgia was once the home of the Cherokee Nation. A Trail of Tears Museum should be established to teach the world about the past.

In Steve's plan, the state would establish a Trail of Tears Commission to involve the Cherokee Nation and the Smithsonian Institution in remembering this heritage.

Promoting Small Business

Promoting Small Business

In our area, we have many fine tourist attractions but not enough restaurants, lodging, or B & Bs.

Steve is committed to working with the tourism industry to bring new businesses to North Georgia that are compatible with the character of our area. He pledges to be involved in seeking a school of culinary arts to be located in our district.

Infrastructure - Roads Are a Priority

Infrastructure - Roads Are a Priority

Roads and bridges in District 9 are of major concern to our area. Tragic deaths and accidents on our roadways are due in part to the age and rural character of roads built long ago.

As your legislator, Steve will work with the State Department of Transportation to provide a master plan with firm timetables to improve this important infrastructure.

Education

Education

Parents must be involved in educating their children. ‘Educrats’ have not solved the crisis wherein teachers must “donate” their own money to provide school supplies for their classrooms.

Steve will be unveiling his fresh ideas on how to solve that problem.
